A Poem about the Secret of the Chanukah Candles

The Secret of the Chanukah Candles
Dovid Eidensohn
Oy Chanukah! Oy Chanukah! A Yom Tov a Shaina[1]
Light  from darkness, hope and prayer,
HaShem is here,
Hashem is everywhere.

My Chanukah Menorah has eight cups,
Filled with oil and cotton wicks,
Burning brightly in the night,
My heart swells at the Heavenly sight.

There is a silent message speaking to my soul,
The candles shine their light and wait,
That is their goal.

We’re supposed to sit long watching the candles glow,
Waiting, waiting, for a light on high,
To come down to earth to us,
And reveal how to become free.

Free to wait,
While more lights comes to us from heaven,
If we think of it enough,
We will understand.
